The Virtualization of the Marketplace
I had a fun time in MAS714J,
"Thinking about Things", taught by Mitchell Resnick
and Sherry Turkle. It
was an open discussion class about the relationships people have with
things, particularly computational things. I live in a virtual world
so much it was good for me to think about what physical worlds
imply.
When it came to writing a paper I drew on my experience with Kasbah,
a demonstration of online commerce.
There's something interesting about marketplaces, real and virtual.
Going to the mall, buying stuff online, even the home shopping network
- they're all different experiences even though the basic goal is the
same. I'm not sure this is the best paper I've ever written, but it
was fun for me.
