The Media Laboratory's sponsor-only semiannual meeting is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, October 13 to Thursday, October 15. On October 14, we will host a one-day symposium focusing on several important trends in human-computer interaction technologies. Topics for discussion will include:

• broadening the bandwidth of interaction between humans and machines by taking advantage of all our human senses;
• moving from single-user systems to systems that are specifically designed for collaboration with a large number of people beyond the constraints of time and place; and
• making our systems more cognizant, so that they are both contextually aware and personalized.

These new modes of interaction promise a world where humans interact with information—and each other—in more informative and inspirational ways.
