Rich Fletcher, Physics and Media

Our group studies the relationship between materials and information, working in both analog and digital representations. We build from materials as much as we learn from them. The physics of nuclear spins in a molecule enables us to make quantum computers from saltwater; the interference pattern of light in butterfly wings teaches us about electromagnetic scattering and found objects such as parts of toys provide valuable insights for clever low-cost engineering solutions.
