Hannes Vilhjalmsson, Gesture and Narrative Language

Human Discourse
We make artifacts and agents that can participate in or support human language activity such as oral storytelling or face-to-face sales negotiations. We base our work on theories of human communicative behavior. To build these theories, we start by observing, transcribing and analyzing video recordings of naturally occurring human discourse, paying particular attention to how various modalities such as voice, gesture, posture and facial expressions contribute to successful interactions.
