RULES OF COMPUTER ADMINSTRATION COURTESY!

PLEASE USE COURTESY AND ALWAYS E-MAIL THE GROUP ABOUT ANY CHANGES YOU MAKE!!!!!!!!!

.
This includes operating systems installation, erasing user files. In general, Sys-pro frowns on any foreign operating systems, like BOS. They are not helpful if we have damaged the computer with weird software or operating systems.

NEVER REMOVE EQUIPMENT FROM A WORKING COMPUTER.
If you do, return it in 24 hours, or replace it in 24 hours, and e-mail the group.

Sys-Admin Resources

The Media Lab System Administration Page has great instructions for all kinds of sys-admin problems, including installling printers, drivers, ETC.

If you need to get a computer networked, the Sys-pro people have a form on their web page that they like you to fill out, .

You can also send e-mail to "help@media.mit.edu" to ask for sys-admin help

Our group drive is called: Hyperopera
It is accessible in Samba, by the path: \\cga\hyperopera
Use this path for editing and creating websites.
The user files are in \\cga\hyperopera\ho\u for PC and Windows or mas/disks/....for unix????
Hyperopera is backed up regularly by the sys-pro people, so it is a good place to store important files.
You can access your home directory on hyperopera through hub\"your user name" in Network Neighborhood.
