A new generation of computerized construction kits, such as LEGO MINDSTORMS, are opening up new possibilities for playful learning. Kids (and adult hobbyists) can now build creatures, contraptions, and other creations that once required an advanced engineering background. MindFests are celebrations of the creativity unleashed by these new technologies.

The initial MindFest brought together educators, kids, hobbyists, and researchers. All had an opportunity to show off their own creations and inventions in the MindFest exhibition space.

Panel discussions focused especially on the role of "tinkering" in learning and creativity — and the ways new technologies are transforming how we think and learn.

MindFest was organized by the Epistemology and Learning Group and the Okawa Center at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
