Biography

Dr. Agnis Stibe is a postdoctoral associate in the Changing Places research group at the MIT Media Lab. His work is focused on persuasive engineering of Socially Influencing Systems (SIS) for behavior change at scale. His research foundation is built upon an extensive knowledge base deriving from socio-psychological theories that describe various aspects of social influence. Based on that, Stibe continues investigating how the design of Persuasive Urban Systems can help to advance knowledge on urban behavior engineering to facilitate health behavior change at scale.

Stibe is an active member of the Persuasive Technology community, frequently chairing and speaking at annual research conferences (e.g., HICSS, ECIS, MobiWIS), and effectively collaborating with industry. Over more than 20 years, he has gained professional experience in sales and marketing of IT services and products, development of interactive web solutions, and customer relationship management. He has worked for a number of multinational IT companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, and FirstData International.

In the course of his career, Stibe has twice been recognized by the Minister of Education and Science of Latvia for his long-term creative work. He has also received awards from the Nokia Foundation and the Latvian Fund for Education. Stibe holds a master’s degree in computer science from University of Latvia, an MBA from Riga Business School, and a PhD on socially influencing systems from University of Oulu.
