The piece came about as an attempt to illustrate my first experience with bioluminscent bacteria in a small southern coastal town in Turkey, Olympus. The current piece is polyester resin cast over steel cables. (see right). The resin was cast using a series of geometric forms but put together in an organic formation. My original intent was to replace the back illumination with a grid of LEDs which would follow the hands of the viewer as they moved in front of the piece.

Using the PIC LogoChip and the Tower, I've builts a small scale mock-up. Photo resistors are used as sensors, as the light level in front of them changes (someone hand moves in front of them), the LED array lights up accordingly, following the visitor's hand position.
