The image rastered in the balsa wood is Gabriela Silang, a Filipina revolutionary made national hero during the Philippine resistance against Spanish colonization. The engraved script on the frame face reads "lakas ng loob" or "inner strength" and "courage" in the ancient Filipino script Babayin.
I hope to layer the Gabriela image with an image of my mother (awww!) signifying the inspirations of positive, strong female role models in my life.
