3D Printing!

3D printing is the fabrication of 3-dimensional, physical parts from 3D models in the computer. It can take the form of building a part up from component material (using the FDM machine or some other tool), or carving away material from a larger chunk (using the Modela, Computer-controlled Lathe or Computer-controlled Mill).

I started making a mounting bracket for my solenoids. This is towards my final project. I made a rough approximation of the solenoid in CAD, then using boolean operations I cut the shape out of a rectangular block.

The shape, sunk into the rectangular block in CAD:

Here is another piece I made, to find out the proper tolerances for mounting the solenoid.
