Risk Meter

Determination of Safe Path using Risk Meter

The purpose of the extended version RiskMeter, "Determination of Safe Path using Risk Meter", is to introduce “Risk” as an additional factor in finding paths, where “Risk” generally represents crime rate. The project consists of two components. The first is “Risk Meter” which shows the chance of a crime in a given place at a given time. “Risk” is calculated based on the criminal record around MIT provided by Cambridge Police. The second component is Microsoft MapPoint which is used to find a path between two geographical locations. The task is to integrate Risk as one of the heuristics so that MapPoint can give multiple suggestions based on the Risk level of the paths.

DPA

Democratic Public Address

The Democratic Public Address (DPA) system is a distributed mesh network of decidedly inexpensive speaker nodes that play audio messages. Each node contains a microphone and speaker, and can be used to program the message that will be rebroadcast by the network. With the DPA, it is possible to easily and quickly deploy a freely accessible messaging platform in public spaces. Nodes are cheap enough that the deployments can be considered disposable, and usable in spaces where authoritarian presences restrict democratic speech.

Going My Way

Going My Way

Going My Way consisting of an application that learns our everyday routes and provides directions from points along those paths. Going My Way provides directions, if available, based on personal landmarks rather than street names and intersections. We aim to reduce cognitive load by simplifying directions: guiding you to your destination with the knowledge of where you’ve been.
