The SGI Onyx, with HIPPI module is currently the host from which holograms are loaded into cheops' framebuffer. Holograms are loaded via a SCSI connection (slow, about 10Mb/s) or via a HIPPI link (faster, about 100MB/s). Various utilities exist to load and display single frames or frame sequences on the mark-II. Each of these load | display utilities is cross-compiled for cheops, and is downloaded, started, and communicated with by chex (cheops execute), from the host machine.
