  1. Ideas—TTT sponsors and researchers brainstorm new technologies to improve companies and products.
  2. Networking—TTT sponsors connect with each other, resulting in exciting new collaborations.
  3. Researchers—TTT faculty and students visit sponsors to conduct workshops, internships, and on-site consultation.
  4. Technology—TTT sponsors take software and hardware back to their companies for internal use or even to market.
  5. Students—TTT sponsors can fund fellows at the Lab and even hire graduates.
  6. Facilities—The Media Lab facility is available to sponsor companies to use for the following:
    • visits and demonstrations
    • workshops
    • executive and board meetings.

Semi-Annual Sponsor Meetings
The Things That Think consortium brings all of its sponsors together for semi-annual sponsor meetings in October and April. In addition to viewing projects and speaking with faculty and students during the sponsor meetings, our sponsors are welcome to visit us at any time throughout the year to learn about the latest advances in our research.

Things That Think sponsors can receive the following:

  • Things That Think News: a monthly e-newsletter about the consortium's latest activities and information on how to become more involved;
  • FRAMES: the Media Lab's monthly newsletter, which highlights research projects, recent theses, and other news about the Lab;
  • @media: an e-newsletter that gives up-to-date information about Media Lab events;
  • a daily email from Media Lab Editor-in-Residence Jack Driscoll (former editor-in-chief of the Boston Globe) about hot technology and Media Lab research in the news;
  • notices about Media Lab intellectual property and patents;
  • access to all Media Lab theses, archived presentations, and publications.

Basic membership in the Things That Think consortium is $200,000 per year, for a minimum of three years. Another option—Consortium Research Sponsor—allows your company to send a research affiliate to the Media Lab, where he or she will be hosted by one of our research groups during the term of sponsorship. This CRS option is $400,000 per year. Sponsors at both levels receive full intellectual property rights, license-fee free and royalty free, to all work developed in the Laboratory during their sponsorship years.
