  • Austar Investing in New ITV Series "Fat Cow Motel" OpenTV Middleware Being Used

In an unusual move, Australian MSO, Austar, has invested $1.7
million in a new ITV 13-part series (production starts in October)
called "Fat Cow Motel." "Fat Cow Motel" features a mystery the
viewing audience must solve. Clues arrive over a single screen
OpenTV enhancedTV application or via email. The show has
been produced by Brisbane-based production company, Hoodlum
Entertainment, and funded partly by the Queensland Government's
Pacific Film and Television Commission (PFTC). Austar satellite
uses OpenTV EN2 modular middleware for ITV services in general.
Though the MSO distributes programming to over 300,000 homes,
it's not clear how many homes will test this show.

  • TV Show Mimics ITV Applications in New Content Format

    I.DetectiveOne new television show strangely mimics/foreshadows a full-blown
ITV application without being interactive at all. We thought you should
check it out if you can. The show is called "I.Detective" on CourtTV
(to be televised August 3rd). "I.Detective" does not offer a syncTV
application. Rather, it offers the viewing audience a series of
multiple-choice questions on screen that feature actual clues from
evidence related to the real 1992 kidnapping of Exxon executive,
Sydney Reso, from his New Jersey home. Video interviews of
law-enforcement officials who participated in that case will also be
shown. Though the case was eventually solved, it will be interesting
to see if viewers figure it out for themselves. Unfortunately, CourtTV
    will not be tracking responses.
