Mobile revenues will not cover 3G costs
The total value of advertising, shopping and interactive services delivered over mobile phones across Western Europe in 2005 will hardly cover the cost of a single 3G mobile licence bought in the UK, according to a report to be published next week by research firm Jupiter MMXI.
The company predicts that total mobile interactive revenues in Western Europe will climb from E116m in 2001 to just E8.1bn in 2005. Jupiter MMXI believes that the majority of revenue generated by mobile phone subscribers in 2005 will continue to come from basic voice services.
Jupiter MMXI says there will be 300 million interactive handsets in Europe (up from 6 million last year) and 191 million active interactive subscribers by the end of 2005.
