On 6 October 1998, the Counter Intelligence Special Interest Group at the MIT Media Lab held its inaugural meeting to announce the formation of this new research focus group. Attending company representatives were treated to a Media Lab Research Open House, a meeting with Nicholas Negroponte and other company representatives and the bonus of a speech on the "Kitchen of the Future" by special guest, Martha Stewart.
