Nekton First Descent: A Co-Production Story
In-country science and knowledge exchange, Nekton Foundation has demonstrated how to co-design marine scientific objectives with local scientists and the government in Seychelles and the Maldives.
Nekton Foundation is a charity focused on equitable science research between 0-300 meters to accelerate the scientific exploration and protection of the ocean. Sheena Talma is a conservationist and the science program manager at Nekton Foundation. Her Nekton project will help inform Seychelles marine spatial plans, specifically in fisheries management. She played a critical role in the co-design of Nekton between the Seychellois government and scientists and is 1 of 2 Seychellois marine scientists selected as Africa-Oxford Visiting Fellows. Dr. Lucy Woodall leads the scientific research at Nekton and is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford.
