An interactive installation of Marcel Duchamp's Large Glass and Notes. Although one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century, many of Marcel Duchamp’s works remain largely enigmatic. This installation explores one of these works, his Large Glass and Notes. Duchamp's Large Glass consists of a 9-foot high painting on plate glass, and a set of notes that, in the words of the artist, “complement the visual experience like a guide book.” Behind the Transparent presents reproductions of the original notes in a manner more consistent with their intended purpose, using the digital format to enable exploration not possible with originals. The goal is to avoid a static presentation of material and instead to create an environment where the user can interact with and manipulate the objects in a navigable idea space.
