Multimedia Based on Object Models: Some Whys and Hows

Abstract

In this paper I describe some of the design issues and research questions associated with objectbased video coding algorithms, as well as the new applications made possible. I propose a hardware and software strategy to cope with the computational demands (stream-based computing combined with automatic resource management) and also briefly introduce object-based audio representations that are linked to the video representations.
