Information for All Applicants
  • Dec 1, 2016: Applications due (electronic submission required) for the following fall semester.
  • Online applications only. The 2017 cycle will open on Sept 15, 2016.
  • Applications, including recommendation letters, are required to be submitted electronically using the online application system. Hard copies will not be accepted.
  • GREs not required.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered. Principal components include statement of objectives (including links to online portfolio if required), transcripts from past attended universities (please upload unofficial transcripts to the online application, official transcripts are not required), and three recommendation letters.
  • Application must list three faculty members/research groups with whom you'd like to work; include this information in the "areas of research or interdisciplinary program" field, and list faculty names at the beginning of statement of objective.
  • Interviews are by invitation only after application submission.
  • All students in Media Arts and Sciences are currently fully funded (tuition, medical insurance, and stipend).
  • All new students are accepted at the master's level first. After completing the MS, students may then go on to apply for the doctoral program.
  • Coursework requirements depend on your research group—there is no "core curriculum."
  • MIT's most current course catalogue is available online.
