8:40am: Near-to-eye electroholography via guided-wave acousto-optics for augmented reality
This paper depicts a fully monolithic, integrated optical platform for transparent near-to-eye holographic display requiring no supporting optics. The solution employs a guided-wave acousto-optic spatial light modulator implemented in lithium niobate in conjunction with an integrated Bragg-regime reflection volume hologram.

On December 12, join the New World Symphony (NWS) for the public launch of Project 305. Just as Tod Machover's Symphony in D captured the essence of Detroit, Project 305 will use community-provided audio and video to create an orchestral work that reflects the experience of Miami residents.

The NWS will collect audiovisual materials for 100 days, beginning January 1, 2017.

Head of the Opera of the Future group Tod Machover has been a co-curator of “Generation Elsewhere: Art in the Age of Distraction," a national series of events investigating the impact of 21st-century technologies on artists, arts institutions, and arts audiences. The final event in the series will be a debate about art and technology, co-hosted by Tod at the Media Lab with Michael Kaiser’s DeVos Institute for Arts Management and the University of Maryland.

In this thesis, DePalma presents an interactive robotic agent that follows pointing gestures and gaze cues and, through a bidirectional exchange of referential gesture, directs its internal indexing system toward both well-known recognizable objects as well as novel configurations of stimuli. This research investigates phenomena in two major domains of human-robot joint attention: 1) an analysis of gesture toward foreground shaping in static scenes and 2) an analysis of the sustainability of joint attention as a behavioral phenomenon over time.

This thesis introduces computer vision techniques that make use of a large-scale corpus of street-level imagery to conduct automated surveys of the built environment. These techniques allow us to study research questions in urban science at street-level resolution and global scale, dramatically increasing the size and scope of this line of research.
