Biography

Joyce Kim cofounded Stellar Development Foundation because she believes that financial access is a prerequisite to fulfill all human rights. The Stellar network, an open source Internet protocol for money, facilitates access to financial services anywhere in the world. Joyce has spoken at the United Nations and World Bank on how open networks can help increase economic access, and was selected as a PopTech fellow for her Stellar work.

Prior to Stellar, Joyce Kim was CEO of popular Asian entertainment site Soompi, cofounder of mobile e-commerce company simplehoney, and a venture capitalist with Freestyle Capital. Before entering the startup world, Joyce was a corporate and M&A attorney. She graduated from Cornell University at the age of 19, followed by graduate school at Harvard University and Columbia Law School.
