We are developing a complete microfluidic replacement for the conventional autosampler. The Autosampler Chip automates biological measurements by routing samples, reagents, and cleaning solutions to and from a sensor, in this case a Suspended Microchannel Resonator (SMR) mass sensor. Preliminary experiments show that the FEP Teflon valves in the Autosampler Chip are capable of delivering piranha solution (concentrated sulfuric acid with hydrogen peroxide) to the SMR to strip bound layers from the silica surface of the sensor and reset it to a like-new state.
