Job Description

The Member Relations Manager will serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of Unit consortia members (external companies) and handle a diverse set of duties on the External Relations team.

Responsibilities

Member Relations and Strategic Engagement: 

  • Serve as primary liaison to member organizations and their senior leadership (CEOs, CTOs), ensuring demonstration of membership value and driving contract renewals through proactive engagement
  • Maintain deep knowledge of faculty and student research to strategically match the Lab’s capabilities with member needs; assess organizational fit and recommend high-value collaboration opportunities
  • Plan and execute member visits, workshops, and demonstrations; co-organize bi-annual multi-day events and design virtual engagement programs to maximize interaction between member companies and the Lab
  • Monitor membership health through continuous tracking of interactions, collaborations, and satisfaction metrics; analyze contract progress and provide strategic recommendations to optimize relationships
  • Partner with colleagues in Member Relations, IP/Contract Administrator, Communications, and IT to shepherd renewals, upgrades, and new member acquisitions; propose tactical approaches to enhance operational efficiency and member engagement

Member Relations Operations: 

·       Maintain awareness of current research activities happening at the Lab; conduct strategic research on current and prospective members using industry databases and share insights to inform team strategy

·       Participate in the create of comprehensive Member Engagement Reports to inform renewal strategies and relationship decisions

·       Coordinate complex, high-stakes visits across the Member Relations team; provide tours and support for visits across all portfolios

Other duties as assigned

Occasional evening and weekend work will be required

General supervision from Director of Member Operations

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·       Bachelor’s degree in a related field required;

·       Minimum of three years’ experience in development, project management, or other related field required;

·       Ability to understand and convey complex research to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.  Must be comfortable with and effective at public speaking;

·       Strong organizational awareness; outstanding writing, editing, and presentation skills;

·       Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with visitors of any status (company, academic, diplomatic, press, VIP, etc.) in person, in writing, or via the phone; as well as the ability to work with the diverse research, staff, and student population in the Lab;

  • Strong public speaking skills and comfort leading and facilitating discussions with diverse audiences;

·       Demonstrated sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality;

·       Excellent technical skills in areas such as email, Google Suite, Microsoft Office suite , video-conferencing, and collaboration tools such as Basecamp, Trello, Notion, Craft, Airtable, and the like;

·       Ability to work with administrative and development teams, take the initiative, and work independently to complete projects are required;

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·       Degree in a technical or scientific field;

·       Experience working in a for-profit organizational environment with a strong background in client relationship management; and 

·       Experience with designing, planning, and executing externally facing events, both large- and small-scale.

Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

This role requires five days a week on-site, although there can be periodic flexibility for remote work.

Pay Range Minimum: $67,200

Pay Range Maximum: $91,100
