Job Description

The Synthetic Neurobiology research group develops cutting-edge methods for mapping the
wiring and molecular composition of the brain. We are looking for a Research Scientist –
Molecular Connectomic Technology in Mouse Brain to develop new viral, nucleic acid, and
protein-based technologies for labeling neurons in the mouse brain for connectomic mapping.


  • Help design, validate, and optimize the function of molecular tools in the living mouse brain;
  • Apply expansion microscopy to the visualization of tissues;
  • Teach and deploy such technologies into collaborating labs;
  • Assist with lab management and grant and manuscript writing;
  • Collaborate and help research group team members and other collaborating students and postdocs on mouse brain research.

This appointment is for one year with possibility of extension based on funding and course of research.


  • PhD in Biological Engineering, Neuroscience, or a related field;
  • At least three years of working experience in live mouse brain experiments;
  • Expertise in molecular cloning, viral tool design and construction, and in vivo delivery of viral vectors (via intracranial injection or in utero electroporation);
  • Experience in fluorescence microscopy, tissue processing, in situ hybridization and/or sequencing, DNA library construction, and DNA sequencing is also required;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated superb analytical/problem solving/critical thinking skills and judgment;
  • Attention to detail, superb organizational, documentation, communication, and time management skills required;
  • Able to work independently and self-motivated, one who is able to work as part of a tightly-knit team;
  • Demonstrated background and interest in neural circuit mapping.
