Job Description

A Technical Associate I position in polymer chemistry/chemical synthesis/drug delivery/ chemical-bio-gas sensing is available in the Nano-Cybernetic Biotrek​ (NCB) research group at the MIT Media Lab.  Nano-Cybernetic Biotrek research group’s aim is to develop extremely miniaturized micro-nano-devices that probe and modulate our biological system. The device will consist of hybrids of nanoelectronics with chemical functionalization and biological materials.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop biomedical devices combining inorganic and biological materials
  • Synthesize various stimuli-responsive polymers, nanoparticles, peptides etc.
  • Perform sensing experiment for detection of various chemicals, ions, biomolecules, enzymes, pH etc.
  • Surface functionalization of nanoelectronics devices
  • Check functionality in in-vitro and in-vivo applications.

Reports to Prof. Deblina Sarkar  

Supervision Exercised:

None. 

This is position is for one year with the possibility of extension based on course of research and funding.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or relevant field
  • 2 or more years of experience with polymer chemistry, chemical synthesis, chemical functionalization/drug delivery/ chemical-bio-gas sensing

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or relevant field
  • Experience with in-vivo animal work
  • Experience with cultured cells
  • Experience with brain stimulation and recording
  • Experience in nanofabrication.
