When it comes to launching a mission into space, saving even a kilogram of weight can be critically important. It takes an enormous amount of energy to get a rocket into orbit.

So how will astronauts heading out on long-duration missions – possibly to Mars – build shelters when the materials might be too heavy to blast off with?
