Feb. 1, 2023

February is Black History Month in the United States. The Media Lab community takes time everyday, and especially this month, to reflect on the experiences, history, culture, and contributions of the Black American community.

Explore the events and resources below to see how you can celebrate this month:

  • On February 8, MIT will host its 49th annual celebration of the life and legacy of MLK. Our very own Jaleesa Trapp from the Lifelong Kindergarten group will be the Graduate Speaker during this year’s ceremony.
  • On February 9, join an MLK Scholar Presentation hosted by Professor Daniel Auguste, the MLK Visiting Assistant Professor at MIT Sloan School of Management.
  • On February 17, the Program in Media Arts and Sciences is hosting a screening of Neptune Frost in honor of Black History Month. Q+A with MIT Professor Sandy Alexandre to follow.

Additional resources include this MIT Press book list related to Black resistance and resilience, as well as the MIT Black History Project website.
