Irmandy Wicaksono, a PhD student in the Media Lab's Responsive Environments group, has been named to the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 list for Asia, in the Healthcare and Science category.
Wicaksono researches and invents electronic textiles and garments with applications ranging from personalized telemedicine, interactive media, to space exploration, among others. His notable works include a washable biomedical suit that can monitor body temperature, heart rate and respiration; a spacesuit system that helps maintain astronauts' health during missions; and Tapis Magique (Magic Carpet), which translates movement into music, and has been awarded a SXSW Innovation Award. Wicaksono also holds three patents, and won the 2022 Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts.
