This morning we entered and explored our first lava tube at Cueva de la Paloma. It appears as a massive open skylight by the side of the road, descending into extensive cave systems on the east and west.
We explored to the end of the western cave, then I deployed the HexSense node and HexRx receiver. The HexSense was placed just inside the cave, and the HexRx just outside—today, we were just testing basic functionality on the field site.
We gathered over three hours of data today, during which time the HexSense and HexRx nodes functioned nominally.
This field research was made possible, in part, by MIT Media Lab member company, Castrol.
