Rotary Powered Prosthetic Ankle

This project aims to design a scalable rotary actuator powerful enough to provide the positive energy required to restore walking to near-biological behavior. This device will utilize a compact, lightweight, integrated rotary transmission design for the actuator. With a fully rotary actuator, we will be able to achieve a shorter build height, while still achieving the full biological range of motion. This allows the prosthesis to fit on a larger range of people and achieve a more biological feel. Another goal of this actuator and prosthesis design is to be scalable and personalizeable to a person of any size and mass, providing customized comfort and performance, tailored to the individual.
