This is an excerpt of Charlie Fink's new book CONVERGENCE, HOW THE WORLD WILL BE PAINTED WITH DATA contributed by Pattie Maes.
No one can deny that smartphones play a central role in our lives. Children get their first phone around the age of 13, and forever after they will keep that phone close to them, consulting it hundreds of times a day. Many people even sleep with their phones. One in three even use their devices in the middle of the night. Of course, it is wonderful that these devices give us access to the world’s knowledge, but increasingly we are becoming aware of the negative impact they have on our physical, mental, and social well-being.
