In Conversation: Glorianna Davenport and Jane Weiner

Tuesday
April 9, 2013

Location

MIT Media Lab

Description

Please join Glorianna Davenport for a conversation with Jane Weiner about Jane's new film Ricky on Leacock.
Ricky Leacock, a father of the Cinema Verite movement, directed MIT's illustrious Film Section and Film/Video Section from 1969-1987. Jane Weiner's Ricky on Leacock provides an intimate portrait of Leacock as teacher, artist, and man. Weiner began shooting the film on the experimental Super 8 synchronous sound rig Leacock developed at MIT in the early 1970s. The conversation will explore the openness of the environment Leacock helped create at MIT, Weiner’s adventures in making Ricky on Leacock during a time in which film was rapidly transitioning to new formats, and Weiner's challenge of raising money for the project (including a final campaign on Kickstarter).
Glorianna Davenport, a founding member of the Media Lab, worked closely with Leacock at the MIT Film/Video Section for 12 years. She collaborated with Leacock on three documentaries and is currently working on the restoration of November Actions, a documentary Leacock shot at MIT prior to his appointment.
Ricky on Leacock will be shown at DocYard at the Brattle Theater on Monday, April 8 at 7 p.m. The film will also be screened at MIT on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m in E14-633.
This event is co-sponsored by the MIT Open Documentary Lab and the MIT Media Lab's Center for Future Storytelling. Lunch will be served.
Please RSVP to kedgerto [at] mit [dot] edu.
