Satellite Tinkering with the Youth Science Initiative

Avery Normandin

As the finale to our year-long partnership with the Youth Science Initiative—a Cambridge-based program for increasing diversity in the STEM workforce—the Space Exploration Initiative hosted a workshop in which  learners collaborated to design, build, and launch small satellites for mock infrared imaging. The youth scientists first learned about the history and development of cubesats (as well as their use) before developing their own, iterating on their design, and finally launching on the MIT campus.
