In the Critical Matter group, we work across various scales—from wearable technology and fashion to architecture and public art. Our focus lies at the intersection of design, technology, and critical inquiry, challenging traditional boundaries and exploring innovative approaches that blend creative expression with cutting-edge technology. We aim to create impactful work that addresses societal challenges.

We’re seeking applicants who:

  • Are passionate about design experiences and systems that critically engage with themes such as identity, emotion, mindfulness, feminism, and participatory design.
  • Have a deep interest in psychology, cognitive and neuroscience,  philosophy of mind, and critical thinking, especially within the socio-technological landscape.
  • Are skilled in translating ideas into prototypes, particularly in areas like robotic fabrication, fashion & wearable technology, AI, and data-driven social impact (though expertise in all areas is not required).
  • Communicate ideas clearly, are open to feedback, and align well with the group’s evolving vision.
  • Are self-motivated, inventive, and capable of adapting to new directions or challenges with a growth-oriented mindset.
  • Enjoy collaboration and contribute actively within a team dynamic.
