Guillermo Herrera-Arcos

 Guillermo Herrera-Arcos is a scientist and neuroengineer. He studied robotics engineering at Tecnologico de Monterrey, where he developed robotic exoskeletons, digital manufacturing platforms for medical devices, and conducted award-winning studies in neuroscience and brain-computer interfaces. Guillermo received his MSc and Ph.D. in neural engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), advised by Hugh Herr at the MIT Media Lab, where he developed biological neural interfaces for the control of paralyzed organs using genetically-targeted techniques like optogenetics, regenerative principles, and bioelectronic implantable platforms. Guillermo worked on Ed Boyden’s lab on projects to make optogenetic molecules compatible with the mammalian nervous system for translational neural stimulation. He was part of the neuroengineering team at Neuralink in 2023, where he worked on spinal cord interfaces. His work has been published and recognized by Science, Nature, AstraZeneca, McGovern Institute, Salk Institute, the U.S. Department of State, the Government of Mexico, among others.
