Kelly Heaton

Former Research Assistant, Program in Media Arts & Sciences

MS 2000

Kelly creates art to explore the impact of electronics on modern civilization. Her early work contains functional circuits that give a "machine life" dimension to her art. Her recent practice is characterized by layers of imagery that portray the human condition in the digital age.

Kelly is also a self-taught perfumer and creator of The Virginia Perfume Company.

How did your experience at the Lab influence your next step?

The Media Lab directly influenced my art career. I am still working with tools and themes of technology almost two decades after graduating.

Take full advantage of your time at MIT. Learn as much as you can and establish relationships with people who you admire. The Media Lab is a rare opportunity to learn and create with the best of the best.
