After a couple years developing software in Hollywood, Karl became the "artist in residence" at Thinking Machines Corporation, where he created experimental computer animation and simulated Darwinian evolution of various virtual entities.  Karl founded GenArts, Inc. in 1996, which provided visual effects software tools to the motion picture industry.  Recently, Karl has returned to creating interactive exhibits with two works at the Museum of Science in Boston.
