Sambuddha (Sam) Ghosal is a Postdoctoral Research Associate advised by Dr. Pratik Shah at The MIT Media Lab. Sam's Ph.D. thesis explored deep learning research and application for image processing, classification, segmentation of structures and objects from real world images. Sam also has expertise in explanation of mechanisms and features used by neural networks (a class of machine learning algorithms) for learning from imaging and non-imaging data. His graduate school research resulted in a first author publication in The Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences (PNAS) journal and was highlighted in other leading computer science conferences and workshops. Sam graduated in May 2019 from Iowa State University with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering. He also has a Masters in Computer Science.
