Shuchang Xu

Shuchang Xu is a visiting student at the Fluid Interfaces Group at the MIT Media Lab and a PhD student in Computer Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on AI-powered assistive systems for enhancing human cognition. Drawing on human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science, he explores how emerging technologies can support people’s cognitive needs in critical contexts, including visual media accessibility for blind users and memory support for older adults.

His work has been published at CHI, UIST, UbiComp, and CSCW, and has received Best Paper Honorable Mention Awards at CHI and UIST. His representative projects include DanmuA11y, an AI-powered system that makes online video commentary accessible to blind users, and Branch Explorer, a system that supports blind users in interactively exploring virtual reality videos.
