Alaa Algargoosh, a postdoctoral fellow in the Opera of the Future group, won two prizes at the 2023 MIT Research Slam competition in the postdoctoral scholar category—Runner-up and Audience Choice—for her work titled: "Aural Affect: The impact of acoustic environments on emotions, experience and well-being."

The MIT Research Slam and 3MT competition is structured through research presentations that build on the classic “elevator pitch” or 3 Minute Thesis (3MT). Prizes range from $300-$600, and all MIT (institute-wide) postdoctoral fellows and associates are eligible to participate, as well as currently enrolled MIT PhD candidates who have passed qualifying exams and not finished defending their thesis.

The in-person final showcase took place on April 19, 2023 at the MIT Welcome Center. Finalists presented live to a panel of judges and the audience; the judges were from diverse backgrounds including academia, industry, business, science communication, and science policy.
