Hao-Tung Yang wins MIT Presidential Fellowship Award

Jimmy Day

Hao-Tung Yang, a graduate student in the Nano-Cybernetic Biotrek (NCB) research group at the MIT Media Lab, has been named a recipient of the MIT Presidential Fellowship. This award recognizes the most outstanding graduate students from around the world who are pursuing advanced studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Hao-Tung is one of 125 graduate students selected for this honor, chosen by MIT’s Deans and Department Heads for his exceptional academic achievements and groundbreaking research. As part of the fellowship, he will receive a certificate acknowledging the award and its benefactor at a special fall welcome reception.

In 2023, Hao-Tung joined the NCB research group, led by Prof. Deblina Sarkar, to pursue his master’s degree. Beginning in Fall 2025, he will continue in the group as a PhD student under Prof. Sarkar’s mentorship. His current research lies at the cutting edge of neurotechnology and bioelectronics, where he is developing nanoscale tools for neural recording and stimulation. His goal is to advance non-invasive treatments for brain diseases. These innovations have the potential to revolutionize the treatment of neurological disorders and advance brain-computer interface technologies.

“We are incredibly proud of Hao-Tung’s accomplishments,” said Prof. Deblina Sarkar. “His work exemplifies the interdisciplinary spirit and scientific rigor that define our lab. This fellowship is a testament to his dedication and the transformative potential of his research.”

The MIT Presidential Fellowship is one of the Institute’s highest honors for graduate students, underscoring MIT’s commitment to supporting researchers who are poised to make significant contributions to science, engineering, and society.
