Jack Forman, a PhD student in the Tangible Media group; Rebecca Lin, a PhD student co-advised by Professor Zach Lieberman in the Future Sketches group; and Lauren Ramlan, a PhD student co-advised by David Kong in the Community Biotechnology Initiative, have been named 2025 MIT Morningside Academy for Design (MAD) Design Fellows.
The MIT MAD Design Fellowship supports MIT graduate students pursuing design research across disciplines such as engineering, architecture, urban planning, and media arts. Fellows receive support to advance projects that address challenges in areas including sustainability, health, mobility, and education while fostering a cross-disciplinary design community at MIT.
Jack Forman’s research explores programmable fibers, responsive textiles, and functional structures as active participants in interaction and construction. Rebecca Lin develops computational tools and modular garment systems that integrate reuse and adaptability into textile design. Lauren Ramlan engineers living materials using fungi as responsive, bio-based design systems that bridge science and art.
