Exhibition: The Next Earth: Computation, Crisis, Cosmology
Location: Palazzo Diedo, Venezia | May 10 – November 23, 2025
Earth and Planetary Mission Control, led by Future Worlds-Climate Intelligence and the Space Exploration Initiative, will be featured in the 2025 Venice Biennale as part of the exhibition The Next Earth: Computation, Crisis, Cosmology, curated by MIT Architecture and the Berggruen Institute.
A Portal to the Planet and Beyond
Developed at the MIT Media Lab, Earth Mission Control (EMC) is an immersive VR/AR platform that transforms complex satellite Earth Observation data into vivid, interactive experiences. From climate change to planetary exploration, EMC helps us not only see the data—but feel its urgency.
In Venice, our installation highlights the city’s vulnerability to rising seas, enabling visitors to explore dynamic projections of sea level rise under different global warming scenarios. From a virtual map table, users witness how land subsidence and encroaching tides threaten the canal-lined heart of the city.
From Volcanic Earth to Lunar Futures
A companion experience, Lunar Mission Control, explores how understanding Earth’s geology and climate systems can inform more responsible exploration across the solar system.
By tracing connections between the Earth and other planetary bodies, the experience aims to leave the audience with a powerful question: What does it mean to be stewards of both our home planet and our planetary future?
