Instrumented Cities

The past several years have shown a proliferation of sensor and wireless communication technologies across the urban landscape, enabling large-scale, real-time data collection and information sharing. We are increasingly living in an instrumented city, in which all aspects of the environment can be quantified, analyzed, and monitored. Now, low-cost sensing technologies embedded in and connected to cell phones and other ubiquitous communications devices enable grassroots data collection and analysis. What does this mean for the future of urban experience?
