Personal Sunlight

Ronan Lonergan 2011

What if buildings could actively bring sunlight inside right where people need it? Personal Sunlight is a robotically actuated mirror system that tracks the sun and continuously redirects daylight to your desk, your favorite reading spot, or even your indoor garden. In conjunction with interior motion and occupancy sensors, it can use wall and ceiling surfaces to provide diffuse lighting even as you move around.

Personal Sunlight was part of a broader research effort exploring robotic façades—self-powered responsive building components that efficiently integrate solar shading and heating, ventilation, privacy control, and ambient lighting. Dynamic facade modules incorporate sensing systems to respond to both environmental conditions and the activities of people.
