Sleep Research Tools

Our group is developing tools for sleep research with smartwatches, smartphones, and similar devices. These include

Open Sleep Staging (Technical preview available)

Open Sleep Staging is an open-source system for generating hypnograms from smartwatch data. Taking in accelerometer, heart rate, and temperature data, it can perform 5-class sleep staging with SOTA accuracy.

WatchSleepLab: Available for collaborations, contact nathanww@media.mit.edu

WatchSleepLab is the backend that powers our slow wave entrainment project. It allows researchers to configure custom stimuli on a watch which are played when specific sleep conditions like N3, REM, or arousal or detected. WatchSleepLab is designed to be highly customizable for custom experiments.

PhoneSleepLab: Available for collaborations, contact nathanww@media.mit.edu

PhoneSleepLab is a javascript web app which can collect actigraphic data from a smartwatch placed on the bed. The smartwatch can also be configured to generate stimuli when specific conditions like sleep onset or deep sleep are detected, enabling custom experiments. PhoneSleepLab can run on any phone with a browser and an accelerometer!
