Ultra-Low Power Send/Receive Optical RFID Tag

Groups

Although RFID technology is well established, there are some niches where RFID doesn't perform well (in the presence of metallic objects, or in applications that afford very limited surface area). We have developed an optical RFID tag, based on extrapolations of our "FindIT Flashlight" technology, that avoids these difficulties. Using our approach, a user searches for a particular tag by scanning the area with a flashlight, a common real-world activity extrapolated to the world of information. With minute power draw regulated via quasi-passive wakeup, the tags should last through the shelf-life of their small embedded battery. The tags will also have the ability to optically talk back to the reader, enabling two-way communication.
