Understanding Dialogue

In order to extend the Digital Intuition group's ability to understand human language, a module that fills in the gaps of current technology must be developed to understand dialogue. This module will be based on data from the Switchboard human-human dialogue corpus, as well as a dataset of recorded dialogues between parents and children while reading an interactive e-book created by the Lab's Personal Robots group. The goal is for the module to be able to identify the emotion and mood of the dialogue in order to make inferences about what parents and children generally talk about when reading the book, and to make suggestions about additional conversation topics. Conversations between an adult and child while reading a book can greatly contribute to the learning and development of young children.
