We are exploring the work piece as an interface to digital fabrication and digital modeling. Possible advantages include a more intuitive workflow and a simpler learning curve. As the first step, we are putting together a prototype of a PCB workbench that allows the user to bring up information about a feature on the PCB from the linked CAD data, by pointing a custom pointing device to the desired trace or component.
